Jordan Installs Solar-powered Water Heating Systems At Nine Hospitals

Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced the completion of the first phase of a project to install solar-powered water heating systems at hospitals across the country.

 

According to an update posted by the ministry, the first phase covered nine government hospitals across the country's northern governorates, with the nine systems providing a combined hot water storage capacity of 35,000 litres.

 

The first phase of the project was implemented by Noor Solar Energy following a tender held in October last year. The project is aiming to install solar water heating systems in 33 hospitals in total across three phases at a total cost of JOD 3.2 million ($4.5 million).

 

Once completed, the project is expected to provide around 217,000 litres of hot water daily across the hospitals, while achieving annual financial savings estimated at over JOD 266,000.

 

The project is administered by the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) and has been supported by the Italian government.

 

During a site visit of one of the installations, JREEEF executive director, Rasmi Hamza, explained that the project falls within the framework of the fund's efforts to enhance energy efficiency in the health sector by providing a sustainable and safe source of hot water.

 

Hamza said the project also contributes to reducing the consumption of traditional fuels, while also reducing operating costs and improving the quality of health services provided to citizens.

 

Jordan's cumulative solar capacity stood at 2,195 MW by the end of last year, according to figures published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the same figure reported at the end of the year prior.
