German Energy Crisis Leads To Frequent Theft Of Solar Products
Sep 16, 2022
The Criminal Police Office of Saxony in Germany believes that the main reasons for the increase in theft of photovoltaic modules and inverters are the energy crisis and the growing demand for solar products. In the first half of 2021, there were 27 such crimes in Saxony. However, in the first half of this year, according to statistics, there have been 34 such cases, and the loss in Saxony alone in the first half of the year exceeded 250,000 euros. The report also said that in the past two weeks alone, there have been multiple reports of theft of photovoltaic products in Germany, including the theft of 114 solar modules from a construction site in Alzberg, Germany, and the theft of 114 solar modules in Saxony. About 30,000 euros ($29,790) in solar technology products were stolen from Naun in the canton of Brandenburg. Local authorities said the thieves were an organised crime gang using the van as a tool of crime. These thieves typically opt for large commercial rooftop and ground-based plants, but there is an increasing focus on residential PV plants.
