Galvanized screw piles, also known as galvanized helical screw piles, are steel piles with helical blades that are coated with a layer of zinc. The following are their specific details:

Structure

  • Steel Shaft: The main body is a cylindrical steel shaft, which provides the basic structural strength and support. The diameter and thickness of the shaft can vary depending on the specific load requirements of the project, generally ranging from a few inches to over a foot in diameter.
  • Helical Blades: One or more helical blades are welded or otherwise attached to the steel shaft in a spiral pattern. The blades' size, pitch, and number are designed according to the load and soil conditions. The blades play a crucial role in the installation process, as they cut through and displace the soil when the pile is rotated into the ground.
  • Galvanized Coating: A layer of zinc is applied to the surface of the steel piles through hot-dip galvanizing or other galvanizing processes. This coating serves as a protective layer, preventing the steel from coming into direct contact with air and moisture, thereby significantly enhancing the corrosion resistance of the piles.

Advantages

  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The galvanized coating provides effective protection against rust and corrosion, making the piles suitable for use in various soil and environmental conditions, including areas with high humidity, saline soil, or near the coast. They can have a service life of decades, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and replacement.
  • High Strength and Durability: Made of high-quality steel, the piles themselves have high strength and can withstand large vertical and horizontal loads. The combination of the steel's strength and the galvanized coating's protection ensures the long-term stability and durability of the foundation.
  • Quick and Easy Installation: Installation is relatively simple and fast, usually using hydraulic machinery to rotate the piles into the ground. This requires less site preparation and labor compared to traditional foundation methods, and the installation process can be completed in a short time, saving construction time and costs.
  • Versatile Applications: They can be used in a wide range of construction projects, such as residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, as well as for solar panel foundations, fence post supports, deck foundations, and more. They are suitable for various soil types, including soft soils, sandy soils, and even some rocky soils.

Installation Process

  • Site Preparation: Before installation, the construction site needs to be cleared of debris and obstacles. The location and spacing of the piles are marked according to the design requirements.
  • Equipment Selection: Hydraulic or mechanical equipment is used to rotate the galvanized screw piles into the ground. For small projects, manual or semi-automatic equipment may be sufficient, while for large-scale projects, more powerful hydraulic machinery is required.
  • Installation: The piles are positioned at the marked locations, and the equipment rotates the piles at a certain speed and torque. As the piles are screwed into the ground, the helical blades cut through the soil, and the depth of the piles is continuously monitored. Once the required depth and torque are reached, the installation of the pile is considered complete.
  • Connection and Reinforcement: After the piles are installed, the upper parts of the piles are connected to the superstructure using bolts, welding, or other connection methods. In some cases, additional reinforcement measures may be taken to ensure the stability and safety of the connection.
